History
Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the oldest and most sacred temples in India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The temple was built long ago and is mentioned in many holy books. Over the years, the temple faced many challenges and was damaged by attacks. At times, the original building was partly or completely destroyed. Even so, its importance as a place of worship never went away. In 1780, the great ruler Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar rebuilt the temple with care and vision. Today, Kashi Vishwanath Temple stands strong along the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi, and millions of devotees visit it each year to pray and find peace.
